Politicking

Though he was somewhat cynical about the noble profession of public service, Ray maintained an interest in politics throughout his life, most of his activity had to do with water and roads. Ray campaigned for a water scheme in Otay while he was there. In 1912 he managed a campaign to support the building of roads in the County (he's shown second from left in the photo above. His neighbor, Fred Roberts, is leaning on the wheel of his own Reo and Dr. Lazalere is the short fellow just to the right of the campaign sign). In 1932 he successfully ran for office as a member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors (A copy of his campaign card is shown below). Ray also campaigned with his neighbors in the San Pasqual Valley in support of prohibition.
