The Battle of Bunker Hill

The Battle of Bunker Hill. On April 23, 1775, four days after the battle at Lexington-Concord, Moses Trussell, at twenty one and inspired by the cause, borrowed a musket from his older brother, James, and enlisted in General Washington's Revolutionary Army. On June 17, two months later, he found himself engaged in the bloodiest battle of the American Revolution, the Battle of Bunker Hill. The scene of the battle is shown in outline form on the map above. After the British finally took Breed's Hill (where the main battle actually took place), Moses made a safe retreat across the Charleston Neck. Upon hearing his officer had fallen, he was again inspired and joined a group of volunteers who went back across the Neck in an attempt a rescue. It was in this heroic excercise that Moses lost his left hand to Enemy fire.
